Nobel Biocare Holding AG announced today, August 14, that it has agreed to buy Belgium's Medicim to gain medical imaging technology.

The dental implant maker will own 100 percent of Medicim and combine operations to create a new business unit. Financial details were not disclosed.

Switzerland’s Nobel plans to use the firm’s imaging technology to integrate Medicim’s NobelGuide surgery software with the Procera system, which is used to create crowns and bridges.

Nobel's chief executive Domenico Scala (pictured), said that Medicim's platform and portfolio of products in development for guided surgery “ideally complement our own initiatives in this field”.

Medicim was set up in 2002 as a spinoff from the University of Leuven in Belgium.
