Astra Zeneca plc said Thursday, June 26, that David Mott, President and CEO of MedImmune, its biologics business unit, will leave the company at the end of July.
Commenting on the announcement, the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceuticals group described it as a personal decision for Mott, uninitiated by AstraZeneca.
"He's been at MedImmune for the last 16 years," said Jamie Lacey, a MedImmune spokeswoman. "He's at a point where he has decided to spend the summer with his family and friends ... and look to what might be next."
Before joining MedImmune, he was an investment banker in the health care division of Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co Inc.
Tony Zook, CEO of AstraZeneca's North American business, and executive vice president of global marketing, will step in as interim CEO of MedImmune until Mott's successor is named.
