One false step, slip, accident or medical mishap, and overnight, regardless of age, any one of us could end up with a disability that makes us dependent on others for the simplest tasks.
Disability impacts more people than you might think and we are all vulnerable to its effects, whether it is a matter of caring for an elderly parent devastated by a stroke, supporting a friend who has Parkinson’s, or hearing about a relative’s baby born with mental retardation.
Of course, we are all susceptible to the effects of time, which can have equally devastating effects.
Fortunately for those of us suffering such plights, Avery Heathcare has developed a portfolio of care homes designed to help.
The main operating subsidiary Optimum Care Ltd, was incorporated to fund the development of purpose-built high quality care homes. Avery currently has seven developments in operation or under construction. It is also actively pursuing new acquisitions and greenfield development opportunities across the UK.
“We are committed to providing person-centred care which recognises the individual needs of guests choosing to live in our home,” says Avery. “We are dedicated to recognising the need for privacy and independence.”
BAMFIELD LODGE
One of Avery’s most popular homes is located at Bamfield Lodge, Bristol. Its rooms are among the largest available in any care facility in the country and all have private en-suite showers as standard.
“We also have companion rooms for couples,” boasts Avery.
As if that was not enough, its gold standard rooms offer a range of quality features, such as garden rooms with French windows and patio areas, larger living space, and views onto quiet gardens.
“Bamfield Lodge has many other special features such as a hairdressing salon, music and therapy room, refreshment area, activity areas, complimentary therapies as well as many quiet sitting areas,” says Avery. It designed the home to enable residents to enjoy the benefit of small group living, while incorporating general nursing and residential care, and dementia care.
“There are three areas of living accommodation for those in our care requiring nursing and residential care,” says Avery. “The home is registered for 60 places in total. The ground floor area offers 16 beds and includes rooms with French doors into the gardens. The first and second floors have 16 beds respectively and offer guests exclusive accommodation, with larger rooms and superb views out onto the surrounding area.”
It also has a special dementia care area, which has 11 beds. This area has been sympathetically designed and staffed for elderly residential clients with dementia care needs.
“We intend our dementia care facility will become a centre of excellence in the Bristol area,” says Avery.
THE CEDARS, LANDFORD
The Cedars, Landford, is another of Avery’s prestigious care homes and has acquired a reputation for the very highest standards of care. It places an emphasis on quality of life in a safe, manageable and comfortable environment.
The home is located to the south of Salisbury in rural Landford and was recently extended (40 new rooms were opened in July 2008). The home offers comfortable accommodation and 24-hour nursing care in single en suite rooms, each offering character and views across the gardens.
“The Cedars has large, comfortable and elegant sitting and dining rooms and prides itself on delicious home cooking with special diets and preferences cared for as required,” says Avery. “Nursing care combines the highest degree of professionalism with friendliness, courtesy and sensitivity. All staff are committed to helping the residents enjoy the very best quality of life of which they are capable.”
THE CEDARS AT BOURNE
The Cedars at Bourne is a relatively new addition to the Avery Group, and is a well-known and highly regarded care home providing 55 beds. According to Avery: “The Cedars Private Nursing and Residential Home in the lovely market town of Bourne in Lincolnshire, offers care and nursing in a beautiful environment with friendly staff who genuinely care.”
BRAMPTON VIEW
CARE VILLAGE
Brampton View Care Village is a development with an emphasis on ownership, community, independence and, perhaps most importantly, freedom. It has something like 20 close care luxury apartments and 15 close care cottages on the site. Soon, there will be a 58 bed nursing home based nearby.
“The standard of living at Brampton View will be second to none,” says Avery. “We have designed the development around a village theme where we will provide residents with a range of facilities to make day-to-day life both easy and convenient. Add to this a fantastic community spirit and an active social scene if you want it, and it’s easy to see why life at Brampton View will give residents and their families a genuine sense of security and peace of mind.”
THE FUTURE
Heckmondwike, Grantham and Peterborough are due to open late 2008. Heckmondwike will provide 48 beds on a prominent site close to the centre of Heckmondwike in Kirklees.
Like other developments, it will offer personal care in large spacious single rooms with en suite shower facilities and will provide specialist services for older people with special needs and dementia.
Avery has also announced plans to build a new 84-bed residential home in Peterborough. The plans have been given the go-ahead by City Council planners and will be based in Hampton Hargate. The state-of-the-art, four-storey home is expected to open during Summer 2009.
Avery has commenced construction of a 65 place care home on Beacon Lane, Grantham, too. Completion for this development is planned for Spring/Summer 2009.
HIGH AMBITION
It is undoubtedly a provider of top quality professional, person-centred care which, without question, acknowledges the individual needs of its guests.
“Our care is dedicated to recognising the need for privacy and independence,” says Avery.
