Acambis H1 narrows

UK vaccine maker Acambis plc said on Thursday, August 7, that its first-half pretax loss narrowed, helped by a surge in revenue and lower costs.

The pretax loss narrowed to £12.2 million in the six months to June, from £19.3 million last year as revenue rose to £8.8 million from £3.4 million.

Research and development costs fell to £9.3 million from £11.2 million, the company said.

At 09:11 GMT, shares in Cambridge-based Acambis were down 0.25 pence, or 0.1 percent, at 186.25p.

The company is currently the subject of a takeover offer by Sanofi-Aventis, the world's third-largest pharmaceutical company.
